Outlook for a Career in Nursing Looks Very Healthy
Nursing is currently the largest health care occupation, with more than 2 million jobs nation wide, and promises to continue to expand in the near future. Job opportunities for registered nurses are expected to grow faster than average. In addition there will continue to be a need to replace the thousands of experienced nurses who leave the occupation over time.
Aside from the constant need for hospital nurses there is also expected to be major growth in home heath care and nursing home staff. This is due to both the growing number of functionally disable elderly persons and the increasing preference for care in the home. Financial pressures on hospitals are also forcing some to discharge patients earlier, which should result in higher nursing home admissions.
